The fourth edition of White Sulphur Springs’ Wild Game Cook-off is set for Saturday, Oct. 1. The Wild Game Cook-off is a fundraiser for White Sulphur Springs Main Street that features local chefs, cooks, and community members and their best wild game recipes.
Some entries this year include wild mushroom and turkey bourguignon, rabbit chasseur with mushrooms, and rabbit ragout with grits, to name a few.
The 2016 Wild Game Cook-off will be held in Butler Hall at St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 3 p.m. in White Sulphur Springs.
A new addition to this year’s cook-off will be an Appalachian Marketplace, featuring local and regional vendors and their best locally made products. The Marketplace will host local bakeries, jewelry makers, stained glass artists, wood and steel sign makers, and a variety of local nonprofits and promotional booths. The Appalachian Marketplace will be open beginning at 12 noon.
Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company will provide a local beer garden, featuring their Devil Anse IPA, Wild Trail Pale Ale, and the Mothman Black IPA.
The afternoon will also feature live music from BlackKingCoal’s Allan Sizemore. Raising funds for flood relief for businesses in White Sulphur is WSS Main Street’s primary goal of this year’s cook-off, and they will be selling event T-shirts with proceeds going towards helping White Sulphur businesses move forward post-flood, either through maintenance, finishing work, or marketing support.
