An elegant evening laced with masks and mysteries are part of this year’s Grand Affair – an event that supports West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine student scholarships.
The WVSOM Student Government Association will host the event. This year’s theme is “Venetian Masquerade.” Each year the Grand Affair offers guests an elegant evening with dancing and dinner at The Greenbrier.
“It goes without saying that The Greenbrier is a historic landmark. It’s world-renowned and it elevates and adds to the character of the event,” said SGA President Jake Mutch. “You can’t deny the quality of an event like this.”
The Grand Affair begins at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 8, in the resort’s Colonial Ballroom.
Most importantly, the Grand Affair is an event where community members can directly support medical students through scholarships.
“We’ve been fortunate to be part of this community and part of WVSOM’s mission is rural outreach and strengthening bonds within a community,” Mutch said. “This event is an opportunity for the community to connect with medical students and support us, as well as the health of the area and West Virginia.”
Jim Nemitz, Ph.D., WVSOM’s vice president for administration and external relations, said that once a year the Grand Affair is a way to not only support but to celebrate WVSOM.
“People in the community and around the state attend the Grand Affair because it is a fundraiser for student scholarships and it’s a way to show appreciation to our medical students,” he said. “It’s also a way to celebrate WVSOM and its contributions to West Virginia.”
The evening will feature a strolling dinner, dancing, silent auction and a car raffle. The WVSOM Foundation is sponsoring a “Focus on Excellence” raffle, which is an opportunity for someone to win a new Ford Focus. Tickets are being sold for $100 and proceeds will also benefit student scholarships. The winner will be announced during the Grand Affair.
Tickets for the Grand Affair are available to the public for $150. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible. To purchase tickets, call the WVSOM Office of Student Affairs at 304-647-6401.
