
On Aug. 24, Andy Evans was sworn in as magistrate by Circuit Judge Patrick Via. Evans recently retired from the West Virginia State Police and was appointed to fill the magistrate vacancy created by the retirement Magistrate Kim Johnson.
Evans, who originally hails from Nicholas County, served as an officer for the Lewisburg Police Department from 1997 until 2000 when he became a member of the West Virginia State Police. During his time with the State Police, Evans served in Pocahontas County, Greenbrier County, Raleigh County and Kanawha County. In Greenbrier County Evans held the position of Detachment Commander at both the Rainelle and Lewisburg Detachments, and was promoted to District Commander at Lewisburg. Evans was then promoted to Lieutenant in South Charleston before being promoted to the position of Troop 7 Commander, where he retired at the rank of Captain.
“I am excited to continue to serve the people of Greenbrier County. In addition to my time here as a police officer, I have served as a wrestling coach at both Greenbrier East and Western Greenbrier Middle School. I also served on the Fairlea EMS Board of Directors. I have always been invested in this community,” said Evans.
Pursuant to provisions of the West Virginia Code that govern the Office of Magistrate the unexpired term for this office will be filled by election in the General Election on November 3rd, 2026. Evans has filed as a candidate for the election.
