On Jan. 5 Garrett won the High Hop contest held at the new Next Level SK8Park in Nitro. The winning hop was three and a half feet.

Garrett, a senior at Greenbrier East High School, has been riding for about three years now. He says, “Most of the tricks I have learned, such as the hopping skill, came from practicing at the skatepark within Hollowell Park in Lewisburg.” The park allows Garrett to practice basic skills to build on intermediate or advanced elements, he says.

Garrett has connected with Merrick Tracy and Stu Schwab from Hill and Holler Bicycle Works. Tracy and Schwab have mentored Garrett in the sport of BMX, and have recently hooked him up with his first professional sponsor, Back Hand Bikes.

Looking forward to more successes in 2014, Garrett wishes to thank his sponsor, his friends at Hill and Holler Bicycle Works, and his family for being so supportive in following his dreams.
