The James Withrow Building located in Montwell Commons in downtown Lewisburg has recently changed hands; after the closing of The Local Cafe and Grocer following COVID-19 shut downs, residents will be thrilled to know its location will be taken over by a well established business – Amy’s Cakes and Cones.
“We will still have custom cakes, ice cream and bakery with the addition of an indoor farmers market,” announced Amy’s on social media. “We will add a deli in the near future and more menu items. Still business as usual on Court Street this week. We are still waiting on some equipment and installs so please bear with us. We appreciate your patronage and hope to see you at Amy’s Market, 990 Jefferson Street North, Lewisburg.”
Moving forward, the business will be closed from Sunday through Wednesday, July 1. Then they will be open for ice cream, sweets, and the existing business menu on Thursday, July 2, from 7 a.m. To 8 p.m., closed on Sundays.
Meanwhile, The Local is not planning to remain closed – the business announced on its website plans to soon reopen in White Sulphur Springs.
The James Withrow Building opened in February 2019 and commemorates the James Withrow Tannery established in the early 1800s on the site of present-day Montwell Common and was constructed with funds from the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and the generous contributions of Don and Marit Withrow, descendants of the original Greenbrier County Withrows.
