Greenbrier County Schools will use enrichment grants provided by the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation to increase art programs. Greenbrier West High School math students will calculate and design a miniature golf course, and shop students will build it.

At Greenbrier East, students will learn folk dancing during gym class, and Alderson Elementary School students will paint banners of the famous Alderson lion to be hung throughout town. Ronceverte Elementary fourth graders will create printed art featuring West Virginia history.

A week after losing to St. Louis, the Arizona Cardinals football team prepared for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh by staying in at The Greenbrier. They practiced at The Greenbrier Sports Performance Center as opposed to travelling back to Arizona and then to Pittsburgh.

Greenbrier East High School students have signed a “Chain Reaction” anti-bullying pledge and put their names on a paper chain that stretches 151 feet throughout the halls of the school . The pledge received 1,238 signatures. It states, “I believe that everybody has the right to live in a community where they feel safe, included, valued and accepted regardless of differences. I pledge to be respectful of others and stand up against bullying whenever and wherever I see it.”

Greenbrier County school teacher Kevin Warfield was honored by the board of education as Teacher of the Year. Warfield teaches civil and aerospace engineering at Greenbrier East High School, and was recently recognized in Charleston as one of six finalists for West Virginia Teacher of the Year.

Susan Hoskins, planning an programs consultant for the West Virginia Library Commission paid a visit to the Rainelle Public Library as part of a county-wide tour.
