Lewisburg-Alex Perry McGuire, 76, passed away at his home Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, after a long illness.
Born Apr. 30, 1937, in Renick he was the son of the late George and Isora Christian McGuire.
Mr. McGuire was a lifelong resident of Lewisburg, a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #42, Lewisburg; Shriners, Lewisburg Lions Club, FOP and the WV Sheriffs Association. He was a former sheriff of Greenbrier County for two terms and Chief of Police in Lewisburg for nine years.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Sharon Kirby McGuire on July 8, 2002; sister, Evelyn Horn; and two brothers, Bradford McGuire and Elton McGuire.
Survivors include his son, Bill McGuire of Lewisburg; sister, Tillie Lawson of Fairlea; and grandson, Gregory Lane.
Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, where Rev. Youel Altizer officiated.
Burial was in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Lewisburg, with Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greenbrier County Humane Society, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
Friends and family called Monday evening at the funeral home.
