The new Alderson water system project was the primary topic of discussion during the June 9th Alderson City Council meeting. The new system will expand water service outward, in an easterly direction, stopping just short of the State Route 63 and Davis Stuart Road intersection, while expanding service the opposite direction along State Route 12 and stopping short of Pence Springs. The new system will result in old fire hydrants being replaced as well as numerous hydrants being newly added. Mayor Copenhaver advised the addition will likely double the number of fire hydrants in the area. Construction is expected to begin this coming fall and may be completed within a year. In a related matter, the new water plant is expected to open this fall. The Council unanimously approved motions related to the project.
The Council unanimously approved reappointing Debbie Carden to the Alderson Public Library Board.
The Council advised two positions for Police Officer at the Alderson Police Department have been posted. Certified Officers are eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus. Non certified officers must agree to a contract that would require the officer to reimburse the city for the cost of training if that officer leaves their position before completing two years.
Fire and EMS Chief Lisa Vandall reported on the actions and accomplishments of her department for FY 2025/26. Chief Vandall advised that the department responded to 772 calls for service during the year.
