During the regular monthly meeting of the Council of the Town of Alderson on May 12, Police Chief Jeremy Bennett was presented with a check for the animal control program.
The check was presented by Councilmember Ann Eskins in memory of long-time City National Bank employee Nancy Shepherd, who retired from the Alderson branch in August 2000 after 24 years of service to First National Bank of Alderson, Greenbrier Valley National Bank and City National Bank. The funds were contributed by her friends and co-workers.
Eskins said, “We know Nancy loved animals and we are sure she would want us to do this.”
Mayor Travis Copenhaver said, “We really appreciate this gift. Our animal control program has been very successful, thanks to the town employees and volunteers who have contributed their labor. However, some things we just have to buy and this will be a big help.”
Alderson’s animal control program, managed by Bennett, picks up stray cats and dogs and holds them for a short time until they can be returned to their owners or found new homes. If no placement is possible, they are delivered to the Greenbrier County Animal Shelter.
