The Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive proved for the tenth year to be successful in making certain children in the western Greenbrier, eastern Fayette, and parts of Summers and Monroe counties have a toy gift to open on Christmas morning.
The late Mr. Davis worked in the District of Columbia area and each Christmas of his adult working time he returned to his family home with a truck load of toys for children in the area who might not otherwise have a Christmas present. As a memorial to his kindness during his lifetime, relatives and friends of his began the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive which is now in its tenth year.
Joining the friends and relatives have been the members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rainelle; Smoot Ruritan Club; McElhenny Chapel, Dawson; St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, White Sulphur Springs; St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Ronceverte; Greenbrier Valley Council 8689 Knights of Columbus as well as 40 plus individuals.
The Greenbrier Valley Knights of Columbus also distributed cases of 12 new coats for children attending to each elementary school in Greenbrier, Monroe, Pocahontas counties and Meadow Bridge and also to the Family Resource Network for Monroe and Pocahontas counties and Wellspring and the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive.
The Knights also provided gently used winter coats, scarves, gloves to the two counties Family Resource Networks.
The Greenbrier Valley Council 8689 Knights of Columbus is composed of active Catholic men in Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Monroe counties and eastern Fayette county and welcomes any Catholic man to join the organization, the largest Catholic men’s organization in those counties as well as West Virginia and the nation and the world.
