Approximately 100 area businesses assist schools in Greenbrier County through school-business partnerships recognized by the WV Education Alliance School-Business Partnership Program. Partnership programs encompass a wide variety of activities and can involve staff development, instructional development, guidance, mentoring, tutoring, incentives and awards, material resources and/or financial support.

At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Greenbrier County Board of Education, Greenbrier East High School formalized partnership agreements with two local businesses: Aerospace Specialties, Inc., represented by Scott Yoak and Tag Studio, represented by Tag Galyean.

Aerospace Specialties, Inc. representative Scott Yoak visits Aerospace Engineering class at GEHS on a regular basis to discuss the various aspects of aviation with students. Yoak has developed flight simulator activities for students and has inspired several students to pursue a career in aviation or aerospace engineering.

Architect Tag Galyean of Tag Studio serves as a mentor and advisor for students enrolled in Civil Engineering & Architecture at GEHS. Galyean visits the classroom on a regular basis and contributes to program curriculum and enhanced projects.

Pre-Engineering Instructor, Kevin Warfield was recognized during the partnership presentation for his innovation and efforts to expand learning opportunities for the school’s engineering and architecture students.

Businesses interested in partnering with an area school are encouraged to contact the school principal directly or Christy Clemons-Rodgers, Grants, Partnerships & Community Relations Coordinator for Greenbrier County Schools at 304-647-6470.
