New River Community and Technical College will offer two workforce welding courses this summer at its Greenbrier Valley Campus, providing students with in-demand skills and an opportunity to pursue state certification. Both courses will run from Monday, June 2 through Thursday, Aug. 7, with flexible scheduling options to accommodate a variety of learners.

The first course, Oxyfuel-Plasma Cutting and Blueprinting, offers foundational training in metal heating, oxyfuel cutting, and blueprint reading. Students will learn to operate flame-cutting equipment, read piping and structural drawings, and practice both manual and automatic cutting techniques in a hands-on lab environment. This course is ideal for those seeking entry into welding, fabrication, or construction-related fields. Class times are available Monday through Thursday from either 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m.

The second course, Introduction to Inert Gas Welding, focuses on the principles of gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), including safety practices, proper equipment setup, and application of inert gases. Students will develop skills in bead formation and joint welding in various positions. The program also includes preparation for the West Virginia State Welding Certification test, a credential that enhances employability in advanced welding and metal fabrication roles. This course is offered Monday through Thursday from either 1 to 4 p.m. or 5 to 9 p.m.

These courses are part of New River CTC’s commitment to delivering workforce training aligned with industry needs and local employment opportunities. Participants must pre-register, and space is limited.
