Merry Christmas!
As Christmas approaches, and 2014 comes to a close, I hope you are feeling warm and cozy in your home. Those of us who are blessed enough to have enough money to buy a Christmas tree and gifts for our loved ones should rejoice in our fortune. So many people in Greenbrier County, and around the world, are going hungry and don’t have a warm place to call home. The rest of us are merely robbing Peter to pay Paul, as my mother says, but still, how blessed we are.
While national and world events leave us rolling our eyes and scratching our heads, isn’t it wonderful to live in an area where your newspaper editors are trying really hard to find information for the Police Blotter? Small town living may make for fewer sensational headlines, but living somewhere safe cannot be underestimated.
If you are travelling this holiday, may you be safe. If you are sticking close to home, ditto: remember not to drink and drive, unplug the Christmas tree before you leave the house, and in the event of snow and ice, watch your step. And meanwhile, please, have a very Merry Christmas from all of us at the Mountain Messenger.
