The oldest participant was Jeff Jeffus at 93 years old, the youngest participant was Beckum Erskine as the New Year’s Baby, and the farthest traveled was Melissa Sanchez from Utah.
The Super Duper Pooper Scooper was The State Fair of WV, celebrating 100 years in 2025, with the wheelbarrow being pushed by Brad Tuckwiller and Calvin Swine with the shovel. Judges this year were Meredith German with the Lewisburg Surf Shop, Linda Gullakson, Chuck Gullakson, GEHS Coach Ray Lee, and EGMS Principal Sue Lee. The m/c was Mike Kidd, and scorekeepers were Michele Hanna and Shane Hanna.
The temperature hovered around 34 degrees, and the estimated crowd turnout was 1,800 people. There were 51 parade entries, and the parade itself was 35 minutes long.
The Shanghai Parade Committee consists of Chair Dr. Mary Ann Mann, Treasurer DeEtta King Hunter, Mike Kidd, Steve Hunter, Sheryl Hulmes, Susan Sharp Campbell, Mike and Jeanie Wyatt, Michele Hanna, Shane Hanna, Seth Kidd, Pam Berry, and Joe Mitchin. Special thanks to Gary Canterbury of GC Sales for furnishing the judge’s stand, Boy Scout Troop 70, The City of Lewisburg, The Asylum, Radio Greenbrier, the WVDN, the Mountain Messenger, and the State of WV Fairs and Festivals grant, and all of the participants who make this parade an awesome event!
Prizes may be picked up at Lewisburg City Hall until Jan. 31.
