We regret to announce the passing of Robert “Stanley” Underwood, Jr., 69, of Ansted, who was born on Jan. 22, 1955, and passed away on Dec. 27, 2024, at the Bowyer’s Hospice House following a sudden illness. He was the beloved son of Robert Stanley Underwood Sr. and Ernestine Holcomb Underwood. Stanley was married to his loving wife of 44 years, Joanne Underwood, and they had two children, Stanley Brian Underwood (Brittney) and Robert Lanham. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Markus (Brittany) Williamson, Tessa Lanham and Wyatt Lanham, Shawn (Haylie), Dalton (Halie), Alexis, Lochlyn, and Kensingtyn Underwood. Robert also found joy with his 6 great-grandchildren: Tanner, Asher, Ava Williamson, Kinsley and Kason Underwood, and Myles Underwood.
Stanley was always surrounded by loving people including 12 brothers and sisters which include: Tony (Sandy) Underwood, Frank (Ruth) Underwood, Scott (Heather) Underwood, Sherri (James “Doomer”) Barnhouse, Trudie (James) Lucas, Nikki (Jimmy) Fox, Carrie Underwood, Christy Underwood, Carla Underwood, Debbie (Lee Roy) Horrocks, David Underwood, Alfie (Eva) Underwood, and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
Robert worked as a Public Service worker for the City of Oak Hill until his retirement and had a passion for watching NASCAR races each weekend and when Stanley wasn’t watching a race you could catch him in his favorite recliner waiting to tickle any grandchildren who come zooming by. Stanley will be remembered as the life of the party no matter where he went. He will also be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hard work, his quick-witted personality, and his love for life.
A memorial will be announced at a later date for family, friends, and all who loved Stanley to gather and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Wallace & Wallace’s funeral home for services rendered.
Robert Underwood, Jr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him and the world will not be the same without him.
