The women of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting in the church fellowship hall on Nov. 11 with Jamie Harvey and Evon Persinger as hostesses. Carole Spencer presided and Betty Lou Byers led in prayer.
Dyan Hefner gave the devotion, “Choose to Be Thankful,” by Emily Barnes with scripture reference Ephesians 5:20, Galatians 5:22, and Psalm 92:2. We need to be people with thankful hearts. Being thankful comes about by choice. We should be thankful for the biggest and smallest things. She mentioned a woman that had been confined to bed for over 16 years because she had rheumatoid arthritis. This woman was thankful that she had the use of one thumb. She could put on her glasses and turn the pages of the Bible. Instead of being bitter, she was thankful. We need to always remember to thank God.
No reports were given due to the group packing shoe boxes. The group reported sending 109 cards, making 32 visits and making 43 phone calls.
The group was reminded that the next meeting will be held Dec. 2. This will be our Christmas dinner and secret pals will be revealed. The group was reminded to bring their gifts, Christ’s birthday offering, and the blessing cup offering. Stella Dodrill dismissed in prayer and Rosie Blake won the door prize.
The group proceeded to pack 102 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, which is a ministry of Franklin Graham.
