Dear Recycle Lady,

Here is an excellent website you will find very interesting – https://www.washingtonpost.com/classic-apps/revolutionary-recycling-a-new-technology-turns-everyday-trash-into-plastic-treasure/2019/11/18/8517d1ea-025e-11ea-9518-1e76abc088b6_story.html.

Serious Recycler

Dear Serious Recycler,

Many thanks for the amazing website. It’s definitely a must see for everyone interested in the environment, recycling and the effects of climate change. It tells the story of a small factory in Israel that has created a new technology that “turns everyday trash into plastic treasure.” Not only that, the technology also saves a “mixture of rotting food, plastic bags, dirty paper, bottles, containers,” and other kinds of garbage from adding to a landfill. Tiny pseudo-plastic pellets are produced from this mess, using a process that “could revolutionize recycling.” A really interesting read!

Dear Recycle Lady,

I have a large metal flashlight that no longer works. Can it be recycled with metal cans?

In The Darkness

Dear In The Darkness,

Your metal flashlight can be recycled, but not with metal cans. It recycles with scrap metal. When you go to the Recycle Center, go in the door marked aluminum cans and push the button. Someone will come to meet you there.Be sure to take the batteries out first.

Dear Readers,

More good news, according to Free the Ocean, the gelato company Sacred Serve has introduced the world’s first 100% zero-plastic compostable ice cream cartons. They have developed the first plastic free, biodegradable, compostable and recyclable ice cream cartons. This packaging combines paper fibers and a water-based moisture barrier instead of using a polyethylene coating.  Most food cartons have a plastic coating to keep the food or liquid from leaking out. The plastic coating offers protection to the contents of the cartons, but it makes the cartons nonrecyclable.
