Penny Pitch representative Judy Steele was the guest speaker at the November meeting of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club. Penny Pitch has been serving the area since 1967. Steele spoke about the organization and its goal to meet the needs of families in Greenbrier County. This year will be challenging with the impact of COVID, which not only affects the fundraising, but the number of families who may be unemployed or have their hours cut at their jobs.
Penny Pitch provides a food box, toys, clothing and helps with utility bills- whatever is the greatest need. The organization has received at least 160 applications this year. Items will be distributed after local civic groups complete the interview process and determine the needs of each application. The fundraising goal this year is $65,000.
