Josh Rhodes, PA

The Rural Health Clinic at Pocahontas Memorial Hospital is excited to announce that Joshua Rhodes, physician assistant, will soon be joining their medical staff. He will also be cross-training in hospitalist duties. Rhodes has been a well-known and popular health care provider in the Pocahontas County area since 2015. He received his education at West Liberty University, completing their Physician Assistant Program in July 2015.

Practicing medicine seems a natural choice for Rhodes, as his father is a pediatric cardiologist and Professor of Pediatrics at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Prior to pursuing a career in medicine, Rhodes graduated from West Liberty State College with a degree in Criminal Justice and worked as a Natural Resources Police Officer for the West Virginia DNR for three years.

Rhodes and his wife, Taryn, have been married for 12 years and have three children. They live in the Arbovale area on a small farm where Rhodes tends to spend the majority of his free time. Rhodes enjoys spending time outdoors – especially if he can be hunting or fishing. His wife is known throughout the county for her photography talents.

Rhodes is excited about joining the RHC staff and continuing to care for and help Pocahontas County patients of all ages. “[PMH] has a real family atmosphere and a true investment in the community they serve. I appreciate the fact that they are still growing and working very hard to provide services to an underserved area. I am honored to be considered to be a part of this team,” says Rhodes.

Rhodes is known for his ability to put patients at ease with his friendly and easy going personality; as well as his skill to explain medical conditions so folks can understand them. “All types of patients interest me for different reasons. It’s kind of fun watching kids come around. I can always tell if they have a relative with a beard or not. If they do, then they are happy to see me. If not, then they are wary the first time, but after that start to loosen up. It has been pretty neat to earn the trust of the kids,” he says of his beard.

The RHC offers a full range of medical services including care for illness and chronic disease management, well child checks, immunizations, physical examinations, and women’s health services.

The PMH Rural Health Clinic is open to all and located inside the hospital, which allows patients access to lab and x-ray services without having to go through the emergency department. You may make an appointment with Rhodes or one of our other health care providers by calling 304-799-6200. Walk-ins are also welcome. The clinic is open Sunday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration for the clinic is at the front desk of the hospital.
