Christ Our Savior of the Valley Lutheran Church in Lewisburg has been host to over 80 high schoolers from Troy, Michigan this week. The youth are spending the week residing in the Alderson Community Center, and performing selfless acts of help through some great projects benefiting others.
Rev. Richard Lohmeyer says the kids are working throughout Greenbrier, Summers and Monroe Counties. In addition to finishing some trail work begun last summer by the visiting Boy Scouts, the Troy Michigan youth painted bleachers, dugouts and curbs around parks and recreational areas.
Lohmeyer said he was rather proud of how many residents received help in repairing their failing roofs and porches in all three counties. “These jobs are simply out of some people’s capabilities to handle either financially or otherwise, and for this help to arrive is life changing,” he added. Another fine accomplishment was the cleaning up of an Alderson resident’s property, which had become overgrown and overwhelming, as the family had experienced a death in the family and was unable to get the work done themselves.
