Lewisburg-Edith Genevieve Wilson was born Dec. 28, 1941, as the first child to Harvey Black and Edith Rodgers Wilson in Ronceverte. She peacefully passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at her family home on Valley View Farm in Lewisburg.
Genevieve was a graduate of Radford University and began a 16-year teaching career in Buena Vista, VA. She also taught in Lantana, FL and Renick. She continued her education with a Master’s Degree in Food Science at Virginia Tech. This training led her to Perdue Farms where she served in product development bringing new chicken products to market. Genevieve continued her learning as she traveled extensively with her traveling pal and chief driver, Mrs. P. Genevieve’s travels carried her to Alaska, Africa, Australia, Mexico, the Middle East, New Zealand and many other points of interest around the globe. Genevieve made a point to always learn the local culture and to make new friends. Genevieve was a counselor at Camp Alleghany, an active member in PEO Chapter V, CEOS, Calvary UMW, the Master Gardeners, and generously volunteered her time with many other clubs and organizations. She was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and active her entire life at Calvary United Methodist Church. Genevieve was continuously involved with the State Fair of West Virginia as a member, an exhibitor, a well respected judge and a tireless volunteer.
Genevieve is survived by: her children, Frederick of Mammolshain, Germany and wife Ursula, Foster Friedman of Alexandria, VA and wife Kim, Frank W. Friedman of Lexington, VA and Christie London of Sacramento, CA and husband Ted; her grandchildren, Maggie, Wil, Nici, Foster, Beck, Aurelia, Simon, Anna, Roxanne and Donovan; her siblings, John R. Wilson of Lewisburg and wife Vicki, Sara McDonnell of West Palm Beach, FL, and Ann McClung of Lewisburg and husband Richard; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including Bettie S. Woodward of Lewisburg. She also leaves behind many treasured friends.
Genevieve had a deep appreciation for faith, family, farming, and learning. Reflecting her selfless passion for learning, she has donated her body to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.
There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church west of Lewisburg.
A visitation will follow at Valley View Farm.
