Columbus, OH-John “Jay” Sombronski, Jr., 84, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, Kensington Place.
After graduating from High School, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving three years, serving two of those years on the battleship USS Iowa. After serving his country, he graduated from Concord College where he met Victory Billos. Soon they married and relocated to Maryland. They both had a passion for education, he taught High School Art, and his wife taught Elementary.
Later they moved to Columbus, OH, where Victory continued teaching and John was a sales representative until retiring. He was a member of Reynoldsburg Senior Center Woodcarving Group. He had a natural talent as an artist and loved painting with oils and acrylics, and wood carving. Known by many as Uncle Jay, he was a kind, generous, and caring man who never met a stranger.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 55 years, Victory Billos Sombronski; his brother, Robert Sombronski and wife Kathleen; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Following services on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Evans Funeral Home in Columbus, OH, John was then taken to Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 15, where Pastor Gary Baker officiated and burial followed in Rosewood Cemetery.
Friends called at the funeral home before the service.
