Dear Editor:
Thank you for reporting on Commissioner McClung’s and Commissioner Hanna’s latest attempt to restrict, censor or even eliminate our citizens’ right to comment at County Commission public meetings, claiming that public comment is a privilege, granted by them, not a right.
One can only speculate why these two Commissioners are proposing to violate the very law (WV Code: 6-9A-3c) that they swore to uphold, a law that guarantees citizens’ right to address the Commission without any restriction or condition whatsoever, beyond signing in fifteen minutes before the meeting.
Neither McClung, Hanna or anyone else has the power or authority to censor or eliminate this fundamental right of the people to speak. It boggles the mind.
