“We first saw him about Jan. 24, and he is still out there today,” says Jeanne Brenneman. “He hangs out with about a dozen white-crowned sparrows near the bird feeder. Bruce reported him on Feb. 15 during the Great Backyard Bird Count, and since then, birders have come from all directions to see him. We have had 10 people come by altogether, from Morgantown, Huntington, Roanoke, Harrisonburg and the Eastern Panhandle,” reports Jeanne. The bird is a midwest resident and the last time he was seen in WV was 13 years ago, so his appearance on the Great Backyard Bird Count list got folks’ attention. “We have enjoyed having him here!”
