Alderson-Stephen Harrison Baldwin, Sr., 59, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, after a short illness.
He was a son of the late Juanita Conard McKinney Baldwin and Wilburn Lawrence Baldwin, Sr.
Steve was born in Greenbrier County on Mar. 21, 1960. He was raised in Renick and graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 1978. With a keen eye for detail, he skillfully managed retail operations at The Greenbrier for 20 years. He later found great pleasure working at EvriChart, where he forged many close friendships. Recently he devoted himself to helping build Muddy Creek Bark & Board alongside his wife, Josie.
As something of a horse whisperer, Steve found peace in commune with horses. His deep reverence for them was unmistakable. That love extended to all animals, and it was not uncommon for him to take in and care for a stray cat, neglected dog, or injured lamb. He also loved golf, basketball, the Minnesota Vikings, and country music – particularly “The Man,” George Strait.
Never one to sit still for too long, Steve was always building something beautiful with his hands. He recently built a swing set for his two young grandsons, Ethan and Harrison, complete with their initials over each swing. He found immense joy in being their Paw Paw.
His warm smile and hearty embrace will be deeply missed by wife, Nancee Josette “Josie” Baldwin; son, Stephen Harrison Baldwin, Jr. (Kerry) of Ronceverte; daughter, Ali Marie Johnston (Craig) of Chapel Hill, NC; beloved grandchildren, Ethan Tinsley Johnston and Harrison River Baldwin; brother, Wilburn Lawrence Baldwin, Jr. (Kristi); niece Stephanie Ann Baldwin (Bobby); uncle James Owen Baldwin (Linda); cousin, Tucker Baldwin (Angie); and countless other family members and friends whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family asks that you find a way to embody his neighborly spirit of “paying it forward.” Look for a way to quietly help your neighbor, two- or four-legged, no matter how big or small the act of service.
Visitation was at Ronceverte Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Nov. 27 followed by memorial service at the same location, where Rev. Ron Miller officiated.
