Alderson-Donna Gale Weakley Norton, 71, of Alderson and Jacksonville, FL, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at University Rehab Center in Urbana, IL, after an 8-year battle with Lewey Body Dementia.
Born Aug. 24, 1948, in Alderson, she was the daughter of the late Margie and Edward Weakley.
Donna graduated from Alderson High School in 1967. She spent most of her adult life in Jacksonville, FL. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She retired from Swisher International, Inc.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald M. Weakley (Big Jerry).
Survivors include brother, Warren Blaine Weakley (wife, Sheila) of Williamsburg, WV; and sister, Wandaleen Elane Jones (husband, Bill) of Savoy, IL; six nieces and nephews, Jerry Weakley (Little Jerry), Lori Carrel, Matthew Jones, Seth Weakley, Jeremiah Weakley, and Hannah Sanchez; and several great-nieces and nephews.
While Donna had no children of her own, she loved animals and treated her kitty cats like her children. Her siblings often reminisced of the baby chicks and parakeets she had as a child. Donna loved to watch football and her favorite team was the Jacksonville Jaguars. She had many friends in her church, which she attended faithfully. Donna LOVED her T-shirts, at the last count she only had 70 (ha, ha), most of which were kitty cats, eagles, Christian-based and the wild wonderful West Virginia. Donna was a Nintendo Entertainment System aficionado and could play Super Mario Brothers for hours on end. Donna was a natural born comedian and even in her last years at the nursing home she kept the staff and residents in stitches, making funny noises, funny faces, dancing and high five-ing everyone.
Donna will be cremated and her remains will be interred at Fletcher Cemetery in Alderson. Graveside services will be held at a later date to be determined.
