Ronceverte-John Wallace McClung, 74, passed away Thursday, Apr. 11, 2019. Being born on Apr. 17, 1944, he died just 6 days short of his birthday. He passed away in Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in Roanoke, VA.

He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church at Organ Cave. Johnny was a farmer and was a master of sheep shearing. He competed in many sheep-shearing contests and won high awards. He was a great horseman, and loved to ride, and was truly a farmer at heart. Johnny had many accomplishments in 4-H. He graduated from Greenbrier High School in Ronceverte, and Reppert’s Auctioneering School in Decatur, IN. He worked for the Department of Agriculture for 31 years in many parts of the state.

Johnny was the son of the late W.H. (Bill) McClung and Mildred Wallace McClung, of Ronceverte.

He is survived by sister, Jacqueline Stuart and brother-in-law, Brad, of Ronceverte; nieces, Beth McCray, and husband Kevin of Roanoke, VA, Ashley Thornbrew and husband Martin of Charlotte, NC; and great-niece and great-nephew, Madison McCray and Braddox Thornbrew. He is also survived by many cousins, very close friends, and his little dog, “Susie.”

Visitation was Sunday evening, Apr. 14 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte. A graveside service was held Monday, Apr. 15, at New Lebanon Cemetery at Pickaway.

Pallbearers were Billy Morgan, Ben Morgan, Chad McCoy, Jason Hylton, Tim Reedy and Jamie Hunter.

Donations of sympathy may be made to Greenbrier Humane Society, 151 Holliday Lane, Lewisburg, WV 24901.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte is in charge of arrangements.
