Lee Street Studios is pleased to present, in a special Gallery Exhibit, The Rite of Spring – Hats by Tatiana Rakhmanina.

The exhibit will open Saturday, Apr. 6, at 4 p.m. Live music will be performed by local blues guitarist PLATYPUS, and complimentary wine and cheese will be served.

Just in time for Derby season, the show will focus on fascinators and the famed Derby hats. Tatiana Rakhmanina learned the art of millinery from her grandmother, who was a hat maker and couturier in Russia in the first half of the 20th Century. Hats by Tatiana Rakhmanina was started in 1995, and has been going strong over the last twenty years. In 2008, Tatiana took her craft a step further by studying hat making in London under Mrs. Rose Cory, formerly a milliner by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen Mother.

Rakhmanina has won many awards, and her hats have been featured in museums, on the runway, and in various publications around the world. Her work has been chosen to show at the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show, and in 2009, one of her designs won at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Tatiana’s creations have also been featured on the cover of the Derby issue of Today’s Woman, a Louisville, Kentucky publication.

Drawing her inspiration from the fabric as well as nature, Tatiana finds joy in creating her hats. She has taken that joy into the classroom and now also teaches millinery. Ms. Rakhmanina is based in Hinton. The Rite of Spring will be open to the public Apr. 6-27.

Lee Street Studios is a community of artists housed in the historic former Lewisburg High School building at 232 Lee Street North. The Studios consist of working artist studios, along with a public Gallery space and a music venue.
