The fried or baked fish dinners for the first six Fridays of the Lenten season begin Mar. 8 in the Parker Community Center of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in downtown White Sulphur Springs, sponsored by the Alleghany Highlands Council 8689 Knights of Columbus.
Serving fried or baked tilapia along with scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, hard rolls, coffee, iced tea, sodas and lemonade along with popular and homemade desserts, the dinners are eat-in or to go beginning each Friday at 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“We shall have the same well known and respected culinary staff as in the past,” noted Perk Berry Jr. of White Sulphur Springs, grand knight of the Council 8689 which has members from Alleghany and Bath counties, VA, and Greenbrier, Monroe, eastern Fayette, and Pocahontas Counties, including members of the Knights of Columbus Roundtable in Pocahontas County.
Ticket prices remain the same as last year with adults $12, children 5-12 are $6, all you care to eat (eat in only) $15, and a family ticket (two adults, two children – eat in only) $25. Proceeds from the dinner are used to fund community, youth, service, church and major projects in the five-county area.
The most recent project was helping resupply winter coat needs with the Salvation Army in Covington, VA, and with the Jim’s Drive Inn “take a coat, leave a coat” project in Lewisburg. The Knights also donate a monthly stipend to the White Sulphur Springs Catholic Outreach Center which provides assistance to residents throughout the Greenbrier Valley and is a mission project of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs.
Located on the southern end of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in downtown White Sulphur Springs, one block south of U.S. 60 at Dry Creek Road and Tressel Street, the Parker Community Center also is headquarters for the community food pantry and the weekend snack packs programs in the White Sulphur Springs area.
In addition to the Mar. 8 dinner, the baked or fried tilapia dinners will be served Mar. 15, 22, 29, and Apr. 5 and 12.
