Lewisburg-Lillian Jeanne Harris sweetly left this world Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

She was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Mary (McCartney) and Ephraim P. Smith.

She had one sibling, her beloved sister, Mary Jane. She later raised her four children alongside Mary Jane and Robert “Buzz” Duncan’s family where they together raised their nine children on the Summit Mountain above Uniontown, PA.  In 1969, she moved her family to Morgantown.

Lillian Jeanne was preceded in death by Mary Jane and Robert Duncan; her daughter-in-law, Diane Harris; and daughter, Marsha Jeanne.

She is survived by her loving children, Les Harris, Sally and Doug Hurst, Jim and Paula Harris, and Tom Harris; grandchildren, Jesse and Emilee Harris, Isaac and Mary Hurst, Josie Martin, Kelsie and Hannah Harris and Katy Harris; along with great-grandchildren, Marten Fallstad, Adaline Harris-Estep and her namesake Lillian who is due in May.

Lillian earned a Baccalaureate in Nursing from Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling from California State College in California, PA. Her lifelong career in nursing included private duty, hospital, school nurse, teaching in nursing aide and LPN programs, nursing home administration and retirement from the quality assurance program at Ruby Memorial Hospital, WVU.

Upon retirement in 1994, she moved to live with Sally and Doug in Fayetteville where she enjoyed rich relationships with her church family at Fayetteville Baptist. In 2012, she moved with Sally and Doug’s family to Lewisburg where she lived out her days.

She never met a stranger and worked tirelessly to help those in need. She was blessed with an enormous heart, “the gift of gab,” a sense of adventure and loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her beautiful life was full and well spent.

The family gratefully acknowledges the caring staff at The Brier and the Peyton Hospice House, 1265 Maplewood Avenue, Lewisburg, WV 24901 where donations will be accepted in her honor.

Arrangements are being made for a memorial at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, for Saturday Feb. 2, with visitation at 1 p.m. and celebration service at 2 p.m. The family will host a meal immediately following and welcomes all to join them at The Barn at Montwell Commons in Lewisburg immediately following the service.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements. Please send online condolences by visiting www.WallaceandWallaceFH.com
