White Sulphur Springs – Lucille Hubbard McDowell (Granny Mac), our Mom and solid family rock, went to be with her Lord Saturday, June 2, 2018, after 89 years on this earth.
During her younger years, she resided in Glace, then moved to White Sulphur Springs in 1970. Lucille retired from The Greenbrier Hotel after many years of service.
Granny Mac was famous for spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her cakes and brownies. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and giving them away to friends and those who were sick. You could nearly always find her in the yard working on her flowers or in her rocking chair on the back porch with her cat.
She was the daughter of the late Toney and LeAnna Hubbard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Clyde McDowell; daughters, Linda McDowell Craft and Donna Jean McDowell; grandson, David Hoke; great-grandson, Liam Craft; siblings, Ruth McCarthy and Wanda Hubbard; sons-in-law, Vernon Hoke and Norman Smith; and special sisters-in-law, Hazel Largen, Noreen Ramsey, and Margie Dickerson.
Left to cherish her memory: children, Mary Lee Hoke, Patricia (Pat) Smith, Bobby McDowell (Jackie), Cathy Nutter (Mark), and Ronnie McDowell (Cindy); grandchildren, Jeff Hoke, Gina Kentopp, Shaun Smith, Jamie Craft, Nathan Craft, Travis McDowell, Kristy Rollar, Nicole McDowell, Andy Nutter, Leigh Ann Nutter, Ashley Nutter, Kim McClung and Jacob McDowell; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Toney Hubbard Jr., Lewis Hubbard, Carol Hubbard Hoke, Ralph Hubbard, and Marty Hubbard; special sister-in-law, Lois June Bostic.
Funeral service was conducted Monday, June 4, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs where Rev. Ralph Hubbard officiated. Family viewing was Sunday evening, June 3, at same location.
Burial was in Glace Spence Cemetery.
