Secretary Gayle Manchin of the Office of Secretary of Education and the Arts announces the dates for the Governor’s Honors Academy (GHA) as July 1-21 at Marshall University and that applications are now available. West Virginia students currently in 11th grade with a GPA of at least 3.5, or who are in the top 10% of their class are eligible to apply.

The West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy is a summer residential program providing academic enrichment in science, math, technology, the arts, and the humanities. Founded in 1984 by Governor John D. Rockefeller, the design of GHA stimulates and supports excellence in education through a multi-week summer program. The mission of GHA is to operate an academically rich environment designed to honor high ability and high achieving students in an institution of higher education. GHA challenges students to grow intellectually, creatively, and socially in a culturally diverse atmosphere.

Sherry Keffer, Director of Governor’s Schools remarks, “The Honors Academy provides new opportunities every single day, and has the power to change the perspective of students’ lives.” Applications for GHA are available online. Students may learn more about GHA and apply at the website www.govschools.wv.gov/GHA. The application deadline will be set by school counselors and may vary among schools.
