The 2018 Governor’s Internship Program application cycle is now open until June 15. College students may apply online at www.intern.wv.gov.
Students must have a 3.0+ GPA, have completed at least one year of undergraduate study, and be a WV resident or attending an accredited WV college or university. If selected for an interview, applicants must provide one letter of recommendation and an unofficial copy of their transcript. Governor’s Interns are paid at least minimum wage and generally work 9-13 weeks throughout the Summer. Gayle C. Manchin, cabinet secretary of education and the arts said, “Governor’s Internships are excellent ways for our students to work with professionals and explore future career opportunities in West Virginia.”
Governor’s Internships will be available in accounting, administration, biology, communications, cyber security, education, engineering, non-profits, transportation, and more. Governor’s Interns that are hired will also have access to “Summer Enrichment” events. In the past they have included networking events, trips to Power Park, tours of the Governor’s Mansion, WV State Capitol, WV State Museum, and more!
We are also seeking “Hosts” for the interns. They can be state agencies, private businesses, or nonprofits. They must pay interns at least minimum wage and give them meaningful work assignments related to their field of study. Hosts may also apply at www.intern.wv.gov. Once authorized, they will be given access to the Governor’s Internship search system where they can select, interview, and hire quality interns that best fit their needs.
