Carnegie Hall’s 2013 free Ivy Terrace Concert Series continues with a performance by Mipso, quoted as “one of the most promising young bands to come out of the University of North Carolina in a long, long time.” As 2013 college graduates, the group now aspires to take Mipso on the road far beyond their home state.
Rooted in the music of North Carolina’s mountains and Piedmont, Chapel Hill-based Mipso gives these traditional influences a distinctly modern twist. With an old-school combination of fiddle, mandolin, bass, guitar, and four voices in close harmony, Mipso’s Jacob, Wood, Joseph, and Libby mix bluegrass ingredients with a healthy dose of 21st century energy. Over the past two years Mipso has released an EP and a full-length album titled “Long, Long Gone” and performed to enthusiastic crowds across North Carolina, from Asheville to Greenville2 and many places in between. This year alone they’ve performed three sold out concerts at Carrboro’s historic Cat’s Cradle.
In November 2012, Resound Magazine described Mipso as a group who “manages to push the boundaries of traditional bluegrass while continuing to stay true to some of the genres staple characteristics.” If you enjoy bluegrass, don’t miss this free Ivy Terrace concert at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, July 25 at 6:30pm, rain or shine.
Bring a picnic dinner and sit back to enjoy a Lewisburg summertime favorite event. No time to plan for dinner? Stuart’s Smokehouse will be on site to sell tasty picnic items you can enjoy during the event.
