Lexington, KY-Eva (Nora) Hefner Arbogast Monier died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, Lexington, following a heart-related illness.
Nora, formerly of Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs, and Cartersville, GA, was born Feb. 6, 1930, to Eva Wall Wiley Hefner and Vergil Hefner of Lewisburg. She was a miracle baby, weighing only 1 pound 12 ounces, and a spunky, energetic person who helped many others. She grew up in Lewisburg, graduating from Lewisburg High School in 1949. She and her sisters, Barbara, Ann and Nancy Hefner were known for their musical abilities and local performances around Lewisburg, with Nora adding a beautiful high soprano voice to the group. She majored in voice and piano at Berea College, graduating in 1954. She also completed a public school certificate at Berea to follow her lifelong dream of teaching music. She taught at Smoot, Rainelle, Williamsburg and White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County, but spent most of her career teaching music, and then kindergarten, at Edgemont and Jeter-Watson schools in Covington, VA, retiring in 1989. She was a positive influence for many students. She was choir director for the Emanuel Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs for 25 years, also a member of the Lewisburg Methodist Church and Cartersville Georgia Presbyterian Church. She was an early and dedicated participant in the White Sulphur Springs Main Street program. She was married to Charles Arbogast of White Sulphur Springs and Howard Monier of Cartersville, GA.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, John and Barbara Hefner; and husbands, Charles Arbogast and Howard Monier.
She is survived by sisters, Ann Carmichael and Nancy Panoz; children, Kim Arbogast (Stephen) McBride and Shane Arbogast (Friederike Paetzold); stepdaughters, Michelle (David Mathews) Monier and Cay (Robert) Eckenrod; granddaughters, Barbara and Sarah Eckenrod; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Following her wishes, on Feb. 6, 2017, the anniversary of her birth, there will be a short graveside service at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens (east of Lewisburg) for immediate family, followed by a 5 p.m. celebration of her life for all her extended family and many friends at the Beverley McBride house, 1362 Washington Street East (formerly 409 E.
