The Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (GVCF) invites all community members to stop in for free cookies and lemonade on Sept. 30 from 3:30-6 p.m. at Rainelle Town Hall, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m.-12 noon at the Alderson Market, and Oct. 14 from 3:30-6 p.m. in the Homes for White Sulphur Springs office on Main Street.
The cookies were arranged by the Girls Scouts of Black Diamond. When the June floods forced them to cancel their annual Thin Mint Sprint, the Girl Scouts offered the treats to their race sponsors as a means of thanking them for their support. GVCF Executive Director Courtney Smith decided that these cookies could be a great way to help keep spirits up in the areas most heavily affected by the floods. She and her local partners Mayor Andy Pendleton of Rainelle, Kevin Johnson and Alissa Stacy of the Alderson Market, and Maggie Hutchison of Homes for White Sulphur Springs, all hope that many community members will come out to enjoy some Thin Mints, Samoas, and Do-Si-Dos as well as camaraderie. They encourage people to spread the word and “Like” the event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/556052591250723/.
The Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation is a collection of funds that make distributions to support the charitable needs of our community. It has distributed over $3.5 million since it was established in 1999.
