The public is invited to attend CommUnity Night, a gathering of 38 of the area’s nonprofit organizations that will include complimentary wine, lemonade and appetizers as well as piano music by the acclaimed pianist Walter Scott IV. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 14 from 4-7 p.m. at the Greenbrier County Visitor’s Center on Washington Street in downtown Lewisburg and will celebrate the ways that nonprofits improve the quality of life in the Greenbrier Valley. CommUnity Night will offer nonprofit organizations an opportunity to thank the community for their support and will afford the public a chance to learn about the different valuable services that each group provides.
The atmosphere will be festive and informal. Participating nonprofits will each have a table of information and food to share. While sampling the delicious snacks and visiting with the nonprofit representatives, attendees can also enjoy Scott’s music. Walter Scott IV graduated with a BA in Piano and a MA in Musicology from Marshall University and found regular work at The Greenbrier where he still plays. He has also been the house pianist at Sam Snead’s Tavern in Hot Springs, VA and his combos have played throughout Virginia and West Virginia. While at The Greenbrier, Mr. Scott has had the luxury of entertaining or playing on the same bill with George Burns, Margaret Whiting, Mark Russell, Fred Travelina, Barbara Eden, Alexander Haig, Art Buchwald, Linda Carter, Jody Powell, Julia Child, Alan Greenspan, Tom Brokaw, John Ashcroft, Robert Novak, and Jay Rockefeller, among others. Scott’s tuning credits include Perry Como, Robert Klein, Bobby Short, Peter Duchin, Bob Newhart, Ellis Marsallis, the Capitol Steps, and many more.
