Clintonville-Nancy K. Surbaugh Robertson left this world early Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2013, following a short illness.
Nancy is survived by: her husband, Joseph “Butch” Robertson of Clintonville; sons, Ivan Leef (Angie) of Clintonville and Eric Leef (Elise) of Clintonville; and stepson, Jared Robertson (Amy) of Grassy Meadows. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shaun Leef of Hurricane, Shanna Boutchyard (Richard) of Fredericksburg, VA and Corey and Morgan Leef of Clintonville; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas of Grassy Meadows; great-grandchildren, Cali, Kyle and Graham; and many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins. Living sisters-in-law include Doris Surbaugh of Clintonville, Frankie Surbaugh of Oak Hill and Marty Morris (Glenn Morris) of Lewisburg.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Clarence Adrian Surbaugh; mother, Barbara Loretta Morgan Surbaugh Kincaid; stepfather, Otis Kincaid; sister, Joy Lavinder; and brothers, George Surbaugh, Gerald Surbaugh and Ronnie Surbaugh.
Nancy grew up in Summers County, graduating from Sandstone High School, where she was crowned homecoming queen, Miss Hornet. Nancy worked in advertising for Senator Bob Holliday at the Meadow River Post for almost 20 years in the Nicholas, Greenbrier and Fayette county areas. While working at the Post, Nancy wrote a weekly column called “From Where I Sit,” that many people looked forward to reading. After working at the Post, Nancy became self-employed, managing private homes at The Greenbrier resort. For many years, Nancy sang with Sharon Wolfe and Mary Catherine Loudermilk in a gospel trio, Sweet Charity. We know Nancy is now singing in perfect harmony with the heavenly choir.
As a young woman, Nancy was a very gifted artist. After not painting anything for 35 years, she returned to painting with Jeanne Brenneman and the Greenbrier Artists group. Watercolor painting became an instant joy to her, and the group became an extended family.
Nancy enjoyed nothing more in this life than spending time with her family and friends, taking sight-seeing and antiquing trips with her beloved husband, Butch, or traveling far and wide with friends to fellowship southern gospel groups. Family meant everything to Nancy, and not a day went by when she didn’t make that known.
Nancy was a member of the James Chapel United Methodist Church in Clintonville.
The viewing was held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle.
The service was held Sunday, Oct. 27, at the James Chapel United Methodist Church on Shoestring Trail in Clintonville with interment at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville immediately following.
