Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) has announced the schedule for its After-School Drama Program: GVTots I (Grade K-1) and II (Grade 2-3), GVTweens (Grade 4-5), GVTeens I (Grade 6-8) and II (Grade 9-12) and the year-long Conservatory (Grade 9-12, by audition).
Registration for after-school classes is open now through Sept. 16. Parents can register their children for classes by contacting Education Director Courtney Susman 304-645-3838 ext. 111.
In an effort to have more one-on-one time with each student, GVT will now offer two GVTeens classes. All classes will now be separated by school grade instead of age, but if students were enrolled in GVTeens class in 2015-2016 they may choose which class to attend. GVTots I and II, GVTweens and GVTeens I and II are for one semester at a time, taking place in the fall and the spring.
For teens who are dedicated to studying the techniques of acting in a more intensive format, GVT offers a year-long conservatory program. This year’s conservatory class will study various styles of theatre, including Ancient Greek Theatre, Elizabethan Theatre, Contemporary and many more. Conservatory program admission is based on a competitive audition process.
After-school classes begin Sept. 26 and run through Dec. 14 on the following schedule:
• Monday
– Tweens (Grade 4-5) 4-5 p.m.
– Conservatory (Grade 8-12) 5:15-7:15 p.m.
• Tuesday
– Tots I (Grade K-1) 4-5 p.m.
– Tots II (Grade 2-3) 5:15-6:15 p.m.
• Wednesday
– Teens I (Grade 6-8) 4-5 p.m.
– Teens II (Grade 9-12) 5:15-6:15 p.m.
“GVT classes are very important to me because they’re fun to participate in and they’ve taught me self-confidence, public speaking and how to be myself … they’re an amazing experience each year,” GVTeen Grace Johnson said.
Tuition for these classes is $90 ($125 for Conservatory) per semester or $170 ($240 for Conservatory) for both Fall and Spring semesters, if registering for the entire year. It is $75 for each additional child in the same family. Need-based scholarships are available.
