Annual Democratic Picnic
The Annual Greenbrier County Democratic Picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 28, at 4 p.m. The covered dish event will be held at the home of Senator Ron and Cindy Miller. Please bring your lawn chair and a dish to share. Jewelry Trunk Show at GVT
Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), the State Professional Theatre of West Virginia, will host a jewelry trunk show in the Daywood Lobby Sunday, Aug. 28. The event is free and open to the public from 5-8 p.m. Jewelry artisan Alan Anderson will be at Greenbrier Valley Theatre to showcase an eclectic mix of costume jewelry. Beaded handbags, brooches, necklaces, earrings and much more will be on display. Complimentary hors d’oeurves and beverages will be served.
Bath and bedding giveaway
Wellspring of Greenbrier Inc. will hold its annual Bath & Bed event Tuesday, Aug. 30, Wednesday, Aug. 31 and Thursday, Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Everyone must apply at the welcome station. Wellspring is located beside Rupert City Hall on Rt. 60. Wellspring of Greenbrier, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity serving Greenbrier County since 2004 as an advocate for the poor, working poor, homeless, transient and disadvantaged people of the area.
Food preservation workshop
Grow Appalachia and the WVU Extension Service are sponsoring a two-day food preservation workshop on Aug. 30 and 31 at the Alderson Community Center from 5:30-8 p.m. each evening. Class will include hands-on opportunities to learn to freeze, can and dry produce. The class is free, but registration is required. The first night will cover drying, freezing and canning with hot water baths. The second night will cover pressure canning of low acid foods.
Greenbrier Artists Meeting
Greenbrier Artists will begin their regular Thursday meetings on Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. in the Kellar Studio on the third floor at Carnegie Hall. All regular members are encouraged to attend this organizational meeting and bring guests. Greenbrier Artists is a nonprofit group dedicated to the education and development of art within the community. If interested in participating in the group or to learn more, please join them at the meeting. Be sure to bring your favorite paints or drawing materials.
Still life oil painting workshop
Noted Charleston artist Arthur Evans will give a three-day workshop at Carnegie Hall on Sept. 12,13 and 14. Evans will demonstrate the art of painting ceramic, and brass or copper vessels with a limited floral still life. For more information, contact the office at Carnegie Hall 304-645-7917.
Art & Craft Show at Fairgrounds
This year the 36th Annual Art & Craft Show sponsored by Edgewood Presbyterian Church will be held Sept. 16, 17 and 18 at the WV State Fair Event Center. Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon to 4 p.m. Proceeds to benefit Hope Haven Homeless Shelter, Greg Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund, EPC Scholarship Fund and EPC Growth and Improvement Fund. Free parking, good food and nearly 100 exhibitors – woodcrafts, candles, jewelry, needlecraft, primitives, paintings, baskets and homemade apple butter. The Bluefield Princeton area
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group
meets once a month, usually around the last Tuesday. The group is open to all who have MS and also family and friends. Medical students and such are welcome. There is no charge or fee to join.
