Debris drop-off update
As Greenbrier County and its citizens move further from the date of the flood event, the surge of disaster-related debris has decreased, and the following temporary dumps sites have closed:
• Rainelle site; Industrial Park off Route 20 – Main Street
• Rupert site; Mundy Park along Anjean Road
• Leslie Slate site; Leslie at the entrance to Slate Dump Hill Road
• Caldwell site; Along Route 60
• Ronceverte site; on River Road
• Water plant; North of White Sulphur Springs along Big Draft Road
Homeowners can still haul their flood debris to the one remaining site at Charmco, Old Drive-in off Route 20, until Aug. 24.
In order to drop off flood debris, you will have to provide to your name, address (proof of residency – preferably driver’s license) and phone number.
Do not bring tires or demolition debris.
Disaster Recovery Centers to trim hours as deadline to register nears
Effective Saturday, Aug. 13, the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in West Virginia will begin operating under new hours. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Aug. 24.
The new operating hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All DRCs are closed on Sundays. To find the DRC nearest to you, go online to www.fema.gov/drc.
If you have questions outside DRC business hours, you can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Helpline at 800-621-3362 (voice, 711 or video relay service), or 800-462-7585 for TTY users. You can use the Helpline to:
• Register with FEMA. Remember, the deadline to register has been extended to Sept. 7.
• Ask questions about a FEMA determination letter.
• Ask about the status of your registration. You will need your nine-digit FEMA registration number and zip code.
• Update your personal information (e.g., change of address or phone number, bank or insurance information) to avoid processing delays.
• Receive information about FEMA property inspections.
• Ask about other federal assistance.

Over $40 million in SBA Disaster Loans approved
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved over $40 million in low-interest disaster loans for businesses and residents in West Virginia affected by the severe storms and flooding on June 22-29. The deadline to file an SBA disaster loan application for physical damage is Aug. 24.
“Currently, 612 disaster loans have been approved in the amount of $40,091,200.00 for affected survivors,” said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA’s Field Operations Center East in Atlanta. “We are pleased to get these loans approved so residents in the disaster area can start to rebuild and resume their normal lives. I encourage anyone who has not submitted an SBA disaster loan application to do so before the deadline.”
SBA disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters to cover uninsured losses from the disaster. Interest rates are as low as 4 percent for businesses, 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations, and 1.625 percent for homeowners and renters. Loan terms can be up to 30 years.
To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance, applicants should register with FEMA online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by mobile device at m.fema.gov. If online or mobile access is unavailable, applicants should call the FEMA toll-free Helpline at 800-621-3362. Those who use 711-Relay or Video Relay Services should call 800-621-3362 (800-462-7585 TTY).
Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
Disaster loan information and application forms may also be obtained by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (800-877-8339 for the deaf and hard-of-hearing) or by sending an email to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Loan applications can be downloaded from www.sba.gov/disaster. Completed applications can be returned to a recovery center or mailed to: U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155.
The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is Aug. 24.
The deadline to return economic injury applications is Mar. 27, 2017.
