Reader says Jenkins pretends to be at groundbreaking ceremony

Dear Editor:
On Sunday morning, I stood and played the National Anthem with my marching band to a crowd that held heavy hearts. I was at the Hope Village groundbreaking ceremony – a project to build 42 houses for the citizens of White Sulphur Springs who lost their homes during the flood. The first house is going to Debbie Nicely, who lost her husband, daughter, and grandson in the flood. Her only request was a window over her kitchen sink. I was proud to play the National Anthem to this group of people – West Virginians who are standing strong.
I was delighted to see Senators Manchin and Capito holding two of the shovels that broke ground on the project. They were joined by many others such as the CEO of MedExpress.
One person, however, that was not present was Representative Evan Jenkins. Representative Jenkins, however, is making it appear on his Facebook page that he was in attendance. Jenkins is the same man who used the flood as a photo-op and who offered “assistance” to flood victims through his mobile office, but in only one hour increments.
Jenkins posted pictures of the Hope Village groundbreaking ceremony, masquerading as if he was in attendance, onto his Facebook page. Over one hundred people have “liked” the photos, but probably don’t realize he wasn’t even there. He used the ceremony to gain publicity for himself. He uses the things that push West Virginians down to push himself up.
It’s time to elect a representative who actually cares about the people of West Virginia, and doesn’t simply use West Virginia’s tragedies to make himself look good.
