June 23, 2016, Greenbrier County, WV, saw what has been quoted as a 1,000-year flood. Many of our counties citizens’ property and sadly lives were swept away. The years it will take to rebuild, because you can’t replace, the precious memories, neither the possessions, nor the dreams of those citizens impacted. Many organizations as well as individuals have diligently extended a helping hand to all those who have experienced great losses. The American Legion Greenbrier Post 26 is one of the many organizations dedicated to its members and their families who have been affected by the recent flood. Those American Legion members who experienced evacuation from their homes and are paid up members, can apply for the American Legion National Emergency Fund Grant. Up to $3,000 is available per grant to American Legion members who apply for the NEF grant. Legion members can apply through this direct web address: http://www.legion.org/emergency/apply. They may also call the state Department of the American Legion directly at 1-888-534-4667 for further information about the NEF.
American Legion Greenbrier Post 26 was saddened to hear three of their post members were flooded out from the recent disaster. The Post extended a small, but hopefully helpful, check to each of the members in good standing as well as assisting them with their NEF applications.
