Registration for Summer Sessions, offered at different times throughout the summer with a variety of courses for both transfer credit and workforce preparation, is underway at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
The first five-week session starts Tuesday, May 31. Offerings include History, Information Technology and Computer Networking. The second five-week session, which begins on July 5, includes Wilderness First Aid and a hiking course.
The ten-week session runs from May 31 – Aug. 5 and includes accounting, art, biology, business, economics, emergency medical services, health, medical terminology, mathematics, natural science and psychology, among others.
Some courses require live meetings with the instructors, while others may be completed online. Appointments are available with academic advisors who can assist students with selecting appropriate courses that meet their needs.
A special invitation to enroll in summer classes is extended to students who attend four-year colleges and universities, but return home for the summer. To be certain that selected courses are appropriate for transfer to their selected major, students must seek approval from their advisor at their home institution before registering at DSLCC.
DSLCC advisors work with students one-on-one to discuss their interests, abilities and goals so that an individualized plan may be developed that best meets their needs and works well with their personal schedule. Summer is an excellent time to earn credits toward an academic award from DSLCC or to transfer credits to another college or university.
Summer classes can be beneficial for students to catch up if they were not able to complete a course during the academic year. It is also a good time to move ahead and earn credits, resulting in fewer courses to complete in the upcoming year. Since enrollments in many summer courses are smaller than fall or spring, there is the opportunity for more interaction among the students and instructors.
Individuals interested in enrolling in the upcoming summer session or are planning to attend DSLCC for the Fall Semester that begins in August should call for an appointment as soon as possible. For more information, call Student Services on campus at 540-863-2820 or the Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista at 540-261-1211.
