Carnegie Hall is seeking proposals for the 2016-2017 school year from artists who wish to present Creative Classrooms in the public school systems in our region.
Creative Classrooms are hands-on art integration workshops offered to supplement the curriculum classrooms across the Greenbrier Valley. These two-hour workshops give school children of all ages the opportunity to try out new art forms in their own classroom. Creative Classrooms cover a variety of topics, including astronomy, gourd art, origami, puppets and poetry, patchwork placemats, clay sculpture, juggling, short stories and printmaking to name just a few. Instructors will attend an orientation session sponsored by Carnegie Hall.
Selected workshops should demonstrate a connection between the art form presented and curriculum goals outlined by the West Virginia Department of Education’s Content Standards and Objectives, available for review at http://wvde.state.wv.us/csos/.
Currently, Creative Classroom instructors serve an estimated 6,000 students in over 200 workshop sessions each year. The Creative Classroom program will be serving schools in Greenbrier, Monroe and Summers counties next year. The deadline for submitting a proposal is May 20.
