• Intro to Computers II
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is offering “Introduction to Computers II” through its non-credit program this month at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center (RRC) in Buena Vista on Tuesdays, Mar. 22, Mar. 29 and Apr. 5, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Ed Mays is the instructor. Tuition is $65.
The three-night class includes an overview of Excel and PowerPoint, and is a continuation of “Intro to Computers I.” The accompanying textbook, which is also used for “Introduction to Computers I,” is “Welcome to Microsoft Office 2013” and may be purchased by calling the DSLCC Bookstore at 540- 862-4322 prior to class. Students are required to bring a flash drive with them to record course materials.
• Pharmacy Tech Course
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is offering a 50-hour classroom “Pharmacy Technician” course through its non-credit program, beginning Tuesday, Mar. 22, in Backels Hall, Room 224, on the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge, VA. The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. through May 10.
This comprehensive course will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands-on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs,” I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parental nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. The tuition of $1,199 includes textbooks, but does not include the cost of the PTCB exam.
Another non-credit course, “Medical Billing and Coding,” that was scheduled to begin in early March, has been postponed to a later date this spring.
