Centerpieces of antique tea pots will grace the tables of those dining at the 32nd Annual Salad Luncheon Nov. 7, sponsored by the Friends of the Greenbrier County Public Library.
The luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Lewisburg United Methodist Church, at the intersection of Washington and Lee streets. Tickets are $8 for adults and $2 for children.
Turkey, ham, desserts, coffee and tea will be served in addition to the delectable variety of salads.
The teapot theme was suggested by Library Aide Rebecca Tipton, who said she was inspired by viewing tea service illustrations and thought, “That’s really pretty.”
Plaid Eagle Antiques will provide tea and chocolate pots for the luncheon tables. The pieces include a redware teapot decorated with yellow and green leaves, a silver teapot with a wooden handle, a Homer Laughlin “Dogwood” pattern and a distinctive blue teapot with its pattern outlined in gold, made by Hall in West Virginia. The pieces will be available for sale after the luncheon.
“A tea pot can be used for Earl Grey tea and scones for four o’clock high tea, with apple juice and cookies for the little girls in your life.” said Karen Lee McClung, owner of Plaid Eagle Antiques.
“When I was in China, before I could buy an item I had to sit down and go through the tea service of friendship.”
Service and friendship also describe the group sponsoring the salad luncheon. The Friends of the Greenbrier County Public Library began in 1979 as an organization dedicated to promoting awareness of services provided by public libraries. In addition to the salad luncheon, the Friends also organize used book sales to support the library’s operating budget. Proceeds from these fundraising efforts support library activities, services and programs.
