After three years at the helm of the United Way of Greenbrier Valley, executive director Cindy Lavender-Bowe is stepping down effective Oct. 30.
Lavender-Bowe will be leaving her position to focus on her family and assist in the management of their businesses. The growth of Mark Bowe Insurance Agency and Antique Cabins and Barns, as well as the Season 2 extension of the successful “Barnwood Builders” television show are calling her into other “executive director” roles.
Board President Sarah Umberger said, “Cindy’s direction will be sorely missed at the United Way of Greenbrier Valley, but her influence will live on in the excellent fundraising events she brought to fruition. We are delighted with the success of her family’s businesses and television hit. And, of course, Cindy is the best person to manage all the moving parts. We wish her the best and know she will continue to be a vocal and positive influence in this community.”
“My heart will always be with United Way and I will do whatever I can to ensure a smooth transition in the organization’s leadership during the remainder of my employment and beyond,” said Lavender-Bowe.
“I am extremely proud of the work we have accomplished and it has been my honor to serve these last three years. I extend my deepest gratitude to all of you; I’ve learned so much about service and the meaning of community from my time spent here.”
