Fairlea-Joseph Gary “Joe Gary” Stansell, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015. He was surrounded by family.
Originally from Macon, Georgia, Joe Gary traveled the world during military service before retiring in Edgewood, Maryland. Falling in love with the mountains of West Virginia, he made his family home on Cove Mountain in Monroe County in 1989.
A decorated veteran of both the Vietnam and Korean Wars, he retired from the United States Army as Master Sergeant after 22 years of service that included Chemical Weapons Engineer, Military Police, Paratrooper and Drill Instructor. He was a lifelong supporter and former Pack Master and leader of the Boy Scouts of America. He leaves a legacy of generations of men he helped tutor into adulthood.
Joe Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leah Stansell of Glace; sons Mark Joseph Stansell of Raleigh, NC and James William Stansell of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Lisa Ann Stansell of Lewisburg; brother James Rushing Stansell of Tifton, GA; granddaughters, Christine Talbott, Alaina Hower, Margaret Hower, Kelsea Hower and Tiffany Stansell; and nieces and nephews and their children in Georgia and across the South.
Services and a celebration of life will be held on the Stansell family mountain in Glace on Sept. 5.

Rudolph V. Green
White Sulphur Springs-Rudolph V. Green, 88, passed away at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015.
Born Mar. 21, 1927, in Louisiana, he was of a son of the late Albert and Pearl Hersey Green.
He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs. Mr. Green was a World War II Navy Veteran and worked in Highway Construction during his working years. He was a very private person who loved his friends and being at home.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Frances Green in 1999; sisters, Annabell and Ella Dean; and brothers, Thomas J., Nathan and Lewis Charles Green.
Survivors include: his wife, Neaner W. Green at home; step-daughter, Dolores Norman; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Emory Hanna and Rev. Ed Vallandingham officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
