Energy Express in Alderson is bursting with ENERGY. The Mentors, Kendra, Abby, Josiah, and Levi, Volunteer Coordinator, Kortney, and Site Coordinator, Mack Dolan are working hard within the community to keep healthy snacks available all over Greenbrier County. The “Snacks in Packs” program began with over 200 households receiving healthy snacks for the weekend.
The “Snacks in Packs” program is a great way to keep the body and mind on track for learning. The Energy express participants are given the choice of having a Snack Pack for each child within the household to take home at the end of the week. The snack packs are prepared at the Lewisburg Methodist Church every Thursday afternoon during Energy Express. Some of the snacks include apple sauce, Quaker Oats cereal bars, Motts Fruit gummies, and Quaker Oats granola bars. Each child feels as if they are getting something special, because their names are hand-written and labeled on his or her take home bag. Unfortunately children with allergies are unable to participate.
Last week, residents from Greenbrier Academy for Girls, located in Pence Springs, visited Energy Express and provided one on one reading with the children of Energy Express Alderson site. The young ladies that visited were very nice and polite, and their visit was much appreciated.
Energy Express is still looking for volunteers to stop by and help with shared reading or one on one reading daily from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Please contact Kortney Ormsbee at Alderson Elementary School or at Kormseeh42@gmail.com.
